Don't count on it. When I hit 2 Million lifetime miles I didn't even get a letter from UA. Other multi-million mile flyers confirmed that it is not recognized or celebrated or acknowledged by United, so it's not as though my gift or letter or luggage tags were lost in the mail.
The same is true of 2K - once you hit 1K in any given year there is NOTHING that UA recognizes, acknowledges or offers you, just as they offer you nothing more to fly more than the first million.
I know it would make far more sense to switch to American in the Spring once I qualified for 1K the following year...just my lazy stupidity...and now that I'm famililar with all the gates and lounges and telephone numbers for UA, it seems like a big deal to switch over to American.
Has anyone done this? Switch from/to United/American once your qualify for top tier so you qualify for both? Is it an easy move; is it worth it?
Thanks,
