I imagine German food stateside isn't what it is in most of Germany. Only German food I've had there was at Fruh in Cologne. It was fine, but, IMHO, not better or worse than anything I've had here.
Früh is a pretty touristy place in Cologne. The food is OK there but there are definitely better places around.
