You are confusing the issue here. What has been implemented is brand specific (Hiltons), not related to HHonors status of Diamond or Gold.

The topic at hand is a status specific rumor.

Given that it takes 16 stays to get Gold, the effort required to get this status is somewhere between SPG Gold and SPG Platinum. I think there needs to be a greater differentiation between HH Diamond and HH Gold but I don't agree the way to do it is by watering down benefits for HH Gold since HH Elite benefits are quite thin as they are.
