I flew GRU-SCL-AKL-SYD a few years ago, the flight out of Sao Paulo was very delayed, more than the 2 1/2 hour connection time for the Sydney flight. LAN bussed all the passengers who missed the connection to a hotel somewhere in Santiago, and then brought us back to the airport the next morning for the flight. Not sure if they'd do something similar for intra-continental flights.
