Both statements here are true.

That said, a very good friend of mine who is a "higher up" at TechOps said that before the original AD came out regarding the wire harnesses to the main gear hydraulic pump 116 out of 117 MD88's were out of compliance (mainly regarding the zip-tying of the harness at the correct distance increments). These were, of course, ramified, but the most recent grounding of AC was mainly a check to make sure that the paperwork corresponded and represented the actual operational reality--sometimes this is not the case.

The new audits being done by the FAA will probably find DL out of compliance for more paperwork issues, but these audits will take another few months to complete and we will find out more during the summer. I just hope planes are not grounded during the busy summer months.
