Every airlines and staff seem to have their own rules. At night I recline straight after take off to go to sleep. In day time, I do notify the person behind me. The only time I request for a seat to be placed upright is during meal service in C within Europe. Only once or twice I have received a "No" which was the wrong reply, but within out idiots the world would be boring!
