I don't know why DL is doing this other than saving money.

I flew first on CO (code share DL award ticket) in Jan from Houston to LAX and it had a full meal (quite good actually) unlimited drinks and excellent service.

Not sure what the pricing difference is for CO (not to mention I never see miles promotions like Delta has), but seems like better quality IMO.
