I have purchased several tickets in the past 24 hours and it is still doing this -showing the exit rows as gray until you get through to the purchase step and do the seat selection. FWIW, the exit row seat assignment is also preceded by an "E" for me as well...
I hope they change this - it's annoying and time-consuming to have to go through to seat selection just to see if exit row seats are open.
