It isn't just the money, nor is it just the pitch, IFE (and UA does have plenty of DVDs that are "on-demand" for J/F, but no music that I am aware of) or food that make or break it. The complete package is a tough sell right now. At least JetBlue had the TrueBlue program reasonably early on. It is not perfect at all, but at least it is (and was) there. And even if the Y -> J upgrade doesn't come through, the pitch is better in the back on UA's E+, or on B6, than VX. For companies that allow paid J, they aren't going to insist on VX and I can't imagine many folks going out of their way to routinely fly paid (by someone else) J on VX insead of an airline with a real FF program and other perks.
As far paying for Y and getting J or paying for J and getting F, no, VX does not have this. But it should be pointed out that VX's business model in their premium cabin is to appeal to the independent business traveler, that is the self-employed or small business entrepreneurs who do not have to deal with corporate travel policies.
