BKK/SIN could not transfer to other domiciles upon their closure as UA refused to allow them to be represented by AFA. There are some flight attendants in SCL who do not have the ability to work in the U.S. - likewise if UA were to close CDG, for example, those that cannot work in the U.S. would have to transfer to another International domicile. How this all plays for the SCL flight attendants out is going to set precedence for what I predict will be a few other domicile closures.
I don't think UA will cut very many international routes, if any. However, many of the International domiciles no longer provide any cost benefit whatsoever to the Company and in many cases are now very expensive to operate, when compared with having a U.S.-based crew doing the flying.
In terms of MIA status as a UA station, it is indeed very dependant on O/D traffic. UA doesn't have much feed and the future of the station I feel will hinge on providing more feed into the hub - some of which could come from the UA/US codeshare.
