Miami is not a focus of UA at the moment, and further I wouldn't be surprised to see all deep-south travel moved to ORD/IAD hubs. Any growth domestically at this station will be a UA/US codeshare....

In terms of SCL, attrition at the base has nothing to do with the closure. If UA wanted to put more bodies into the SCL domicile they would have - there were transfers on file to the base. It is simply not cost effective to maintain the domicile there anymore.
As SCL is the first international domicile closure at UA, it will set a precedent over future domicile consolidation at UA. If I was a flight attendant based in HNL, CDG or even FRA I would be concerned that these bases might be next.
