I use zipcar in DC and have been a member for years and I highly reccomend it. Sometimes the cars are a bit dirty; especially the older cars, this is not Hertz where the car gets cleaned in between every rental but otherwise the car was not there only once. That time happened when a couple of people drove out to Fairfax and did not realize that there was a police funeral that day screwing up traffic; Zipcar ended up comping part of the reservation and they got hit with a fine for being so late. (Quick Zipcar hint if you think you might be pushing your rental period add on an extra 30 minutes; it is a lot cheaper than the late fee). Zipcar's customer service is very good; the policy tends to be non of their rules over ride common sense. About a year ago I reserved a car with expired temp tags which I refused to drive (I pay them to worry about this stuff, best feature of Zipcar is that you don't have to care about expired tags and oil changes) and they put me in a new car a few blocks away and comped the rental because it was their screwup. Overall I highly reccomend zipcar if you live near where they park a few. I am thinking of buying a car soon and will still maintain my membership as a cheap insurance policy.
