April Fools storiies (not) for QF pax
After the BBC ran "Should have been April Fools stories but aren't" maybe we can think of some QF equivalents.. here's a start
a) When the airport link road was built for the Sydney Olympics, the freeway-exit for SYD airport was designed so traffic could simply leave the freeway using the right lane and filter into the airport access road. But what was overlooked was that we don't drive on the right, so the junction is a shambles with a snarled-up traffic-light. Had it been designed for left-side driving the exit would have been further along, on the other side of the road-bridge.
b) The tram marked "Airport West" in Melbourne terminates about 1 mile short of MEL airport.
c) Although it could easily stop alongside the escalators, surly raildrivers ensure that the train from the city to BNE's international terminal stops at the very farthest end of the platform, so pax must haul their bags an extra 100m.
d) Whether arriving or leaving, cars cannot drive up to the (QF domestic) terminal at PER. To increase carpark revenues at PER airport the rapacious airport-owner has blocked off all vehicular access to the terminal. Alongside the entire length, departures and arrivals, is a fenced-off one-lane taxi-tollway for waiting cabs. Pax wishing to get in and out the terminal must scurry through small gaps in the fence, interrupting the already-sporadic flow of cabs.
e) PER and OOL airports are served by municipal bus services. PER's bus is very handy, goes to the city often faster than lining up for the hobbled cab service. Whereas OOL's bus goes only to the far side of the car park where there's a real bus-stop.
