On two occasions in as many years, I have had to complain about maintenance issues.

In one case, the A/C was not blowing cold air (it was temperate outside so it wasn't unbearable, but it was Florida) and I got, without asking, 2500 points plus a $25 BB.

In the second case, the room had myridad problems - the curtains were off the tracks and the toilet was loosley mounted among other things - and the hotel offered 2500 points (again, without asking) for my trouble. Those points never posted and since I had no written proof, I didn't have any basis to complain to MR Customer Service. Ironically, a few months later I stayed at that same hotel and received the exact same room. Most of the problems had been fixed except for the toilet so I asked for a different room - and reminded them of the points that they'd offered but didn't post, which they eventually did take care of.

In the OP's case, if the hot water had been off in the AM during prime shower time, that would have been pretty serious. In the evening, it would be more of an inconvenience than a disaster. I trust the property provided bottled water and you, er, kept the bathroom door closed and the lid down. If it had been something that made the room uninhabitable rather than an inconvenience, I simply would not have paid for it - points be d@mned.
