Surcharge, tax also exceed the lowest fare for NRT-SIN. They did not until March 31.
Yes, the Japanese airlines are becoming incredibly obnoxious with these fuel surcharges. I understand they need to raise fares, but these fuel surcharges border on false advertising. When you see a fare advertised for 45,000 but in reality is more than double that, there is a problem.
The other infuriating aspect of fuel surcharges is their effect on mileage award tickets. These tickets are advertised as "free" but are actually not, because of the fuel surcharges. My last "free" ticket on JAL cost me almost 50,000 Yen!
