Its been a while since i have flown on AC, but recently took a few flights NRT-YVR, YVR YYZ AND YYZ LAX, all in paid J, the domestic J cabin is economy plus really but they are all the same in NA.
However the international J with the new seats and cabin is quite nice, what's lets it down is the on board service, its okay but not exceptional and very hit and miss, more miss than hit, the normal story slow service from unhappy FA's not really wanting to be there....
Then I took BA paid J YYZ-LHR, wow.!... first the lounge, obviously new and very clean looking, it has the terraces concept where you can eat before you fly, the staff where very helpful.
Then the flight, great cabin equal to if not better than AC, the FA's were happy and smiling, something I did not see on AC.
I have really been swung on to the BA product, forgetting the FF program as a reason to fly AC, BA is a country mile ahead of AC.
I have no loyality to AC as i have lost my status and blown all my points.

Thank you for posting your experience and thoughts. What you point out is nothing new and has been regurgitated time and time again. So much so that when a "regular" AC forum member posts anything negative about AC they are castrated.
You can have the best planes, the best seats, top notch IFE and food but unless you have the staff to match it all means squat.
Case in point... last Friday CCS > YYZ on XM319 11:40PM departure. After dinner..FA's were in the galley with curtains closed laughing loudly and slamming the galley cabinet doors shut all the-while passengers were trying to sleep
No courtesy or regard for passengers comfort what-so-ever.
