I'm flying to Paraguay later this week. (I too miss the all-AA itineraries via GRU.) My itinerary entails AA to and from SCL with a connection there to a LAN code share flight operated by Paraguay's TAM Mercosur. At least it is all on one ticket (I assume I'm protected in case of a misconnect) and I was able to book it on aa.com piecing it together with the Price & Schedule option. Longer layovers than I'd like in SCL coming and going, but at least there's an Admiral's Club there.
Just did that trip yesterday. No way you misconnect, with PZ leaving at 1.30 pm. If you have a LA codeshare ticket on the flight to ASU (instead of PZ 706 as flight number) you will get access to the LA lounges.
On the GRU-ASU issue, people here in Paraguay are waiting for it. It is rather a political issue, as is pointed out above. It has gone so far that PY travel agents cannot issue flights with AA segments on it (at least that is what a TA told me).
