I'm reading many of these posts, wondering where reality went. I've stayed at this property several times without complaint. Yes, the rooms are small. Yes, it's hard for a Plat to get an upgrade with all the Plats that stay there. But this is New York City. Midtown. It's typical for any major chain property.
Quite honestly, those who complain about scratches in hallway wallpaper or staff attitude may want to consider that when you look for problems, you usually find them. (They, or others, may wish to try a boutique mini-chain, like the Affinia, which I've enjoyed when looking for an alternative.)
I've found being polite, having a sense of humor, and realizing that Manhattan is hard place to find a decent room for a decent price all are approaches that make the trip less stressful -- and help match expectations with reality.
