The rep placed me on hold and returned with great news! She indicated that SPG AMEX appreciated my 21 years of loyal business and she could give me an additonal 4000 courtesy starpoints if I charged my IRS payment on the card. This essentially provides me with the double points promotion.

That is good news, and maybe worth a call. However, SPG has only been around about 9 years. You could not have had an SPG Amex for 21 of those 9 years.
