Three Zurich Hotels: which would you choose?
Hi,
[N.B. Searched on the topic but most are looking for cheap and/or near-ZRH hotels, so this is a bit different IMO].
Mrs. CTW and I are going to CH for some nice holiday in Zermatt. On the return, we're flying UA out of ZRH, so I thought we'd stay where we generally do on such trips -- the Steigenberger on the lake which is quite serviceable and nice. However it's full in June when we're going.
We're really just staying one night in town to be reasonably close to ZRH for our flight out the next morning, and we don't really want to stay near the airport -- we have something of a tradition for our last night in CH of going, on foot, to our favorite fondue place, the Pinte Vaudoise on Kruggasse (which you should DEFINITELY visit if you are in Zurich as it is extremely tasty and the owner/cook is a hoot).
So, which hotel? We've stayed in the Eden Au Lac which was extremely nice (try the Aga Khan tasting menu aka "Hors d'oeuvre chaud" - a dining experience!!!) but really better for two nights than one and a bit pricey.
I don't really have any points (or, gasp, loyalty) as far as hotel programs go apart from Priority Club, and the Crowne Plaza is full. So I'm choosing from a few others:
Choice 1 is the Marriott in town, around USD 235/night.
Choice 2 is the Dolder Waldhaus, up above town and newly restored, but sort of like the Eden Au Lac -- pricey and perhaps not worth it for only about a 20 hour stay...but only about USD 100 more at USD 330/night.
Choice 3 is the Sheraton Neues Schloss Hotel also in town, around USD 300/night.
If it were you, which would you pick??
Other similar choices or suggestions welcome!!
Thanks in advance,
-C
