The situation probably won't have a big effect on you or other tourists. It is making life harder on those of us who live here. Inflation was already bad before the protests started 2 weeks ago, since then fresh food prices have skyrocketed. The president and protesters called a truce last night though, and shipments are supposed to have resumed today. However, our local mega-grocery store still had no beef and terrible looking produce this evening.

I suggest you come down and enjoy yourself, don't worry about the protests if they resume. However, you may find it interesting to see how political protest down here is much more vocal and frequent then what has happened in the US in the past 30 years
