An Air Canada jet coming in from Sydney, Australia had a close call at Vancouver International Airport this morning when it slid off the runway.
The plane, a Boeing 777, was turning off the landing runway when it looks like it skidded off the pavement, said Bernie Leighton, a visitor from Edmonton who saw the immediate aftermath of the accident, but not the accident itself, from his hotel room at the Fairmont Airport Hotel.
"What we have at the moment is two fire trucks, one stair truck and some engineering vehicles and a $200-million airframe with its nose wheel stuck in the mud," Leighton said.
Buses were sent to remove the more than 200 passengers. No injuries have been reported.
The plane was scheduled to continue on to Toronto.
