Thanks for free upgrade, but no thanks to the dirty bed!
Just stayed at Sheraton New York Hotel and Tower last weekend and I wasn't too impressed.
Check-In: I got upgraded (as a Plat) to a "suite" (pretty crappy for what they call a suite - a standard room connected to another room with couches) on the 26th floor. I was asked what I wanted for my Plat amenity. (some places don't ask so this was a plus)
Room: The mattress was dirty. It had some kind of white powder all over it. I assumed it was detergent but it could've been something else. By the time I checked the mattress it was late in the evening and I just slept in it after covering the mattress with towels (luckily these were clean). The sheets and etc were replaced next morning with clean ones ^
Baggage: I was charged $3.25 per bag to store them for a few hours on the ground level!!! I am guessing this is a New York thing because I've never seen other SPG hotels do this to me. They usually take care of my bags for free.
Overall: Very good location for business and pleasure. Close to offices and shopping. A subway station nearby as well. However, gets a bit noisy and elevators were always busy (5-10 min wait) because of the large number of guests passing through the hotel.
