'Tis true! I'm a Canadian living in Canada, but it always surprises me how inward-looking our American friends are. Canadians and Americans are about as similar as 2 different nations will ever be, yet we're so very different at the same time. A lot of Americans really do tend to forget that there's anything other than America. It's something so prevalent in their society that most of them don't even realize they think / act like that.

Back to airlines though, here in Canada we have Air Canada and there is always a sense of "home" just boarding the aircraft. The experience continues when you get Canadian newspapers handed out, watch the news from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, see red maple leaf logos all over the aircraft ... It's no wonder really that airlines easily become something of a national symbol despite the fact that they are privately-run corporations.

Finally on the topic of T5, my condolences to you Brits! (And everyone affected by what's going on!) Hopefully things get fixed soon. It sounds like it's a pretty nice terminal and BA in the end is still a good airline; perhaps next week things will be running smoothly.
