I had a nice experience recently however, when I was allowed to change MUC to FRA on an award ticket NUE-MUC-JNB. However, the call centre agent had to get an OK from his supervisor. As FRA/MUC is your end-destination, it might be a different case, but hey - give them a call and tell us whether you succeeded.
