The hotel recommended to you looks like a fairly typical Japanese business hotel - perhaps a step up from the usual. It has multiple restaurants, probably because there is not much else in the area. It will probably serve their needs but not be very interesting or inspiring.

I think I'd actually opt for the Okura Ebina referenced in the thread linked above. Ebina to Zama is a 7 minute train ride on a local that runs several times per hour, every 9 or 10 minutes. I don't know how far it is from Ebina Station to Camp Zama but I expect there will be cabs if it is too far to walk.

The Okura looks like a pretty good full-service hotel and is in a somewhat larger city that will have a bigger variety of restaurants and other attractions.

You could also consider: http://www.japanhotel.net/data/hotel...5&area=MACHIDA , which is in Machida, near Zama. This would be booked via Japan Hotel Network, a booking service I have used and recommend. This is also a business hotel, similar to the Odakyu but in the other direction, a 13 minute local train ride.

Most hotels are equipped to accept credit cards but some local restaurants and most other kinds of shops are not. Hubby and friends will need to carry some cash.
