Anyways I sit here at gate n3 in seattle and had asked to be put on the standby list. The gate agent did so but told me there are lots of people ahead of me. While half of seattle is a mvpg I was curious if there was any sort of standy order of preference.I didn't ask the agent as she didn't seem to helpful

Its funny AS seems to treat me better once on the aircraft and the planes are in good shape but always gives me crappy seat assingments and service on the ground.

If the earlier flight wasn't full, you could have just paid $25 for a confirmed seat on the earlier flight. I usually just go to one of the many kiosks inside security and don't bother with an agent. Also, I try to do web check-in right away at 24 hours prior to departure, as web check-in sometimes opens up some seats that are not otherwise available for pre-selection.

Of course, there was no way to know NW was going to come steal all the seats, but personally I'd rather pay $25 for the peace of mind. AS has let me change to an earlier (or later) flight even on flights when only a couple seats were available for sale. This option to confirm an earlier or later flight is available up to 24 hours prior to departure time using the web check-in interface. This benefit is available to everyone and not just elite members.

Also, if you were upgraded on the orig flight, the system will automatically transfer your upgrade over to the earlier flight if there is upgrade availability.
