And I thought I used to be able to fly Thai between Hong Kong and Taiwan for 20K miles, now it's 40K as Hong Kong is in the South Asia zone, and Taiwan is in the North Asia zone.

Also, seems like only one stopover or one open jaw is allowed. Air Canada's chart allows one stopover AND one open jaw. Of course, ANA's chart seems to be the most generous in that sense, allowing 4 stopovers within each mileage range of awards.

The way AC and UA classify zones is different and that makes a big difference in some awards.

For example, Hong Kong to Tokyo is 40/60/80 on UA's chart yet it's 20/30/50 on AC's chart. Of course, this might be done intentionally to encourage people to fly on UA metal between SIN/BKK/HKG & NRT so UA don't have to pay the *A partner back.

But in general, UA's chart is more generous for long haul flights.
