Yeah, I was referring to the international upgrades (where applicable i.e. Europe, South America, Asia, India, Hawaii) as for the co-pays. Sorry that wasn't all that clear... I apologize.

L, M, H, K, W, fares all provide for a lot of the flexibility of the Y fares (no change fees etc) without the massive upfront costs
All of the fares (expect Y) mentioned above do have change fees.
Really? When I book flights I use the price/schedule feature on AA.com. Using this feature I book flights under the Economy Saver which is right between the Economy SuperSaver and the Full Economy options. When you click for the fare details, AA.com pulls up these features.

I have never been charged a change fee for tickets booked in the Economy Saver function and have always been able to make changes to my itinerary provided there were still seats left available in that fare bucket, or in a lesser fare bucket. It works pretty well, except on the major holidays when all of the flights are absolutely packed.
