there was an article:

if the flight went from dubai over japan (say figuratively tokyo then onwards to the lax, it'd be 10418 miles not 8339 as ek say it will be.

so it looks like the straight flight line is over the top of Greenland.

according to that article on businesstraveler.com the new sept 1 ek 215 goes via japan it crosses the
pacific and therefore it's RTW, but as the miles is given as 8339 my global
miles calculator shows it must be flying over Russia and the North Pole, so
maybe it's not RTW. or maybe it is?

what's the rules here? does it qualify or not for rtw?

I'd like some confirmation if I flew rtw mmostely with emirates say: del-dxb-jnb-dxb-lax-sfo-abq-den-ord-jax-jfk-dxb-del 30000. would this actually warrants RTW status?

or if the new dxb-lax flight flies in a straight line over the arctic ocean near the north pole more near the top of Greenland would that allow this above routing to qualify for RTW pricing and status?

it's two oceans, atlantic but not pacific, so I wonder if it qualifies or not?
