So, I book my flight, and just for the heck of it I check Travelocity >After< paying for next weeks emergency flight to RDU
NWA.Com = $444 Travelocity = $227
Fill out the form (it's almost midnight central) and send it in.
Form asks do I want to attach documentation, so I add four pages of screen printouts showing the flight selection, and final cost (everything before you put your credit card number in on Travelocity.)
Here's their reply.
Thank you for contacting nwa.com Customer Service.
We appreciate you choosing Northwest Airlines. We have reviewed your
claim for the Best Fare Guarantee and found that your request is not
valid. In the terms and conditions it states that Northwest Airlines
must be able to verify the lower online published fare at the time of
claim. In reviewing travelocity.com, I am showing the same flights
available for $499.00. Since the travelocity.com fare is higher than the
price you paid for your nwa.com reservation, your claim is not valid.
We appreciate your patronage and look forward to serving you in the
future.
I believe this will explain why your Best Fare Guarantee claim is
denied.
Thank you for choosing Northwest Airlines. We value your patronage and
consider it a privilege to serve your travel needs.
Sincerely,
Tara

So ...?????? I know that >TODAY< the Travelocity price is $499..... but LAST NIGHT it was $227, and my printouts show it. NWA didn't say I had to BUY a cheaper fare... they said I had to FIND a cheaper fare.
If I had known there would be problems, I would have cancelled last night, and booked on Trav. Has ANYBODY gotten them to live up to their promise?
Interesting enough.. NWA had the same $444 price for leaving MSN on the 2nd last night, but today that flight was $250 (I'm flying out on the 1st)
