I separated and then divorced about 3 years ago and dating after that was a real nightmare. Because we work weird hours (game industry), I never met anyone local and didn't want to date any co-workers.

Online dating seemed like the perfect answer for me, and in a lot of ways it was. I got to meet a number of nice guys, but none of them really clicked the way one wants for a long-term relationship. I did speed dating once, and dated one of the guys I met that way for a couple of months, but again it wasn't as deep a dating pool as I'd hoped.

The odd thing is, just as with job hunting, once I decided to retire from dating for a while, I met my current boyfriend. We'd been friends for a while, having met through work, but never really hung out together before now. And once we did, sparks started flying

Give online dating a go. If nothing else, you'll get to meet some interesting guys and maybe make friends. The last dating site I used, which has an interesting set up, is okcupid.com. It used to be an internet quiz site, but then changed its focus to be more about dating. You do have to be quite specific about what you're looking for, as it's used by folks who want threesomes and other variants on relationships, but I did meet at least two cool guys through it that I wouldn't have met any other way.
