I think you're hung up on the term "free ride."

There are certain people that have unreasonable expectations, like SkySaver seats on whatever flight they want, upgrades whenever they fly, six segment itineraries for $99, etc. In my mind, these expectations equal a free ride - i.e. paying a minimal amount for a significant, costly benefit - in the current economic and competitive environment.

If DL was getting "paid its dues," don't you think it would be able to operate profitably at the current level of benefits?
