I would certainly not go to a mall to spend a stopover unless that's really your thing. Mississauga is a bit of a suburban wasteland, so your best bet is to walk around downtown - Queen St. west from Yonge is a good long walk that can take you through several neighbourhoods.

Is your connecting flight domestic or int'l? If it is domestic, get your boarding pass before leaving the airport, and there's no reason to leave downtown before 4:45PM. If it's US or int'l, leave downtown by 4PM.
