The large selection at hypermarkets like COOP tend to be mystery wines. either never heard of them, or are really lousy years.

Enoteca seem to have vast collections, but serious prices. if you want to buy the 3 beaker wines from a number of regions, i think you will probably have to go there.

have been to a number of wineries/cellars where they have the huge vat of local bulk, and then their reserve wines. frequently with a lot of age and not too much price. does not work where the tourists hit the wineries like it's napa. in chiantishire (a london suburb full of german tourists), good chianti at reasonable prices can be found from the small growers that do not export to usa, etc.
