Whenever I fly from the Bay Area to PDX I always go through SEA. The SEA-PDX segment is ~129 miles. Doing it both ways gives me an extra 2000 miles and 1000 EQMs and it adds nothing to the base fare. Of course I get an extra two segments out of it too.
