Quite simply, UAL, if it wants to survive, needs to get rid of its union contracts. It is ludicrous for $300k+ union employees, 80 year old FAs and all the other high cost, low productivity, low customer service UAL daily operational practices. Chapter 11 may offer UAL a slim opportunity to do this. If they do not take advantage of this, then the Southwests, Jet Blues and others will eventually drive them the way of Pan Am and TWA.
