Of course it's only 20 minutes to Centraal but, the last 3-4 times I had a long transfer at AMS (including yesterday), the weather was so cr@p (below 5C and raining/snowing) that, even if I had been planning to go out into town, I just ended up using the KL Schengen lounge and consuming as much as I could of the free food, drinks and internet.
