I haven't been to the Sheraton in Carlsbad, but I believe it is near LegoLand, which will give it a Disney-like guest quality. Probably better pool, but full of families and kids in the Summer. Hilton at Torrey Pines is right on the golf course, a nice hotel, a couple of miles from shopping and restaurants in La Jolla, overall more of an adult area, though kids will do OK. San Diego Zoo and Sea World are close by also, and better than LegoLand. Try Balboa Park too, right next to the zoo. Outstanding stuff there to fill a whole day. Unless LegoLand was your destination, I'd stick with Torrey.
