There is even a workaround if you have used up your 19,000 mile yearly budget. As a fellow FTer recently told me, you can simply create a household account and buy the extra miles from that account. ^
Exactly what I did just one week ago. Was already up to my 19,000 purchase limit for the year but was still 500 short. So enrolled my 11 year old daughter into EC, merged her into a new household account and bought 1000 more miles ^

We now have 2 J seats to NYC in August, rather than 2 WT+ seats. And solely due to help from fellow FT'ers
