General observation ON:
It is not "generally expenive in Europe".
It is a matter of (a) location and (b) the weak bushback.
(a). When going to Venice I do not want to get alcohol from a supermarket to get drunken but want to sit in a nice decent place admiring the architecture, watch people and enjoy Venice. And I know a plain beer will be 10 Euro (so it is comaparable places in Paris, Rome, New York, Hong Kong and elsewhere)
(b) Don't put the blame on us in Europe because the bushback is loosing value from day to day. I remember the months after the introduction of the Euro when it went down to about 80 US Cent for the Euro and a 10 Dollar beer all of a sudden was more than 12 Euro. Today it is vice versa: the 10 Euro beer is 15,50 Dollar. However, both are still the same beer....

You do realize calling it a "bushback" is insulting to many of us. I'm guessing you don't really care, though.
