Too big, too Shangri-La
For me, there is no point staying in the Valley Wing at the Shangri-La, as once you leave the wing, you are back in the land of conventions, with crowds of people milling about in the lobby.
Like most Shangri-Las, this one is too big to be able to provide the same service as, say, Four Seasons Singapore. I also dislike the pool area, which has a great garden setting but is really old fashioned and is often full of screaming children.
I am not convinced that Shangri-La can do Deluxe. They are great at business hotels, but I wonder what they will do when they open Palais d'Ilena in Paris. Do they understand 'small'?
