BALTIMORE -- A wing part fell off a U.S. Airways plane traveling from Orlando to Philadelphia on Saturday, airline officials said.

It happened about 10:15 a.m. as Flight 1215 was traveling near Baltimore. A composite panel from on top of the left wing dislodged and hit a passenger window. There were no injuries, the airline said.

The plane, with 174 passengers aboard, landed safely at Philadelphia International Airport.

The aircraft has been taken out of service while U.S. Airways officials investigate.
Stuff happens.

Speaking of which, was anyone else at DCA last Friday (the 14th)? I came in on CO158 and we landed fine around 6:15 pm. Deboarded quickly and was walking up towards National Hall when I saw every crash and rescue rig roaring out of the airport fire station and making their way up Taxiway Kilo to a point I couldnt see from where I was. Once I got past the south pier, I could see the equipment surrounding a US Express CRJ which was stopped right were runways 33 and 1 intersect. More emergency vehicles (mostly airport police) followed.

After about 20 minutes, a 2 US Express shuttle buses came around and took the passengers. And I guess about 15 minutes later, a tug towed the aircraft off the runway. Total airport shutdown time was probably at least 35 to 40 minutes.

So, rejected takeoff? Engine shutdown? Bad landing?
