Yes but baseballs bats are officially not allowed while tripods are in the shady area. In general they do seem to allow them (at least I've never had any problems). As for monopods, if the person understands its a photo tripod like thing they'll probably allow it but if they're clueless and don't know what it is they might force you to check it. In terms of damage - I can probably do more damage with a suitcase than a baseball bat.
