There is no real requirement for the hotel to have given you breakfast at all.
As per the T&C for Diamond benes at Hilton hotels in North America:
Upgrade to Executive Floor (if available), OR Executive Floor Lounge access (if the hotel has a Lounge), OR High Speed Internet Access (available in the US and select locations in Mexico and Canada), OR complimentary continental breakfast for the member and one guest each day of the stay (guest must be registered at hotel). If the rate already includes breakfast, a special food and beverage amenity will be presented.
The benes for Doubletree are:
Upgrade to Executive Floor (if available), OR Executive Floor Lounge access (if the hotel has a Lounge), OR High Speed Internet Access (available in the US and select locations in Mexico and Canada), OR complimentary continental breakfast for the member and one guest each day of the stay.
The benes for GOLD are about the same.
