Update: Chungking Mansions was a very good experience. It is almost like a town inside the building. It is so big and you can almost find everything you need inside of it. Plenty of Indian food. I would highly recommend the indian breads and curry. Arriving at 11pm, we found Kamal guesthouse (150HKG for 2 people) and it worked out perfect. I believe this turned out to be an abnormally low rate, because we never saw another room at this rate that was so nice. Our late arrival probably got us the best deal. We stayed here for 2 nights. All the ethnic groups were kind and polite. It was really a lot of fun sampling all the south asian foods. I can highly recommend the "cutting prata" at the Pakistani stall "Lahore" for 11 or 13 HKG (I think near Block D).

On my return to HK I stayed at 2 other places during my 2 nights there and both offered great value, but don't remember the names of the spots exactly(2 people for 150 HKG first night and 120HKG the next night). So, you can really just show up and and do a search around up and down the elevators. But, be sure to bargain for the best price.

I looked at the Mirador Mansion next door, which has accommodation similar to Chungking, but the guesthouses didn't have such rock bottom prices, and it didn't have that "excitement" feel like I felt in Chungking Mansion. Mirador Mansion was much quieter -- a good place to stay too if you want to see less people hanging around on the ground floor trying to get you to their guesthouse or restaurant.

Lots of fun meeting civicmon for a day of walking around Hong Kong!
