There certainly is that, but when there's a choice, I take airports' condition and amenities into consideration.

Even though ORD is further from downtown Chicago and might be more expensive, I'd probably never use MDW due to severe lack of amenities.

Similarly for a trip to midtown, Manhattan. While EWR might be closest, I'd prefer JFK for the nice FL and the cheaper public transport to midtown despite the lengthier trip. Plus, EWR sux.
