Very interesting thread ezmonee ^

While I don't do a lot of car rentals, when I do, I pretty much always go with Hertz, having been stung with “other” rental companies in the past.

However, sometimes I question my loyalty to Hertz & have been tempted to try out Avis, who I consider to be top of the pile along with Hertz. Unfortunately the one time I did rent Avis (LAX) my car wasn’t as clean & had way higher mileage than those cars I would previously got from Hertz.

I also discovered that the car wasn’t full of fuel.

When I picked up the car, I checked the fuel gauge & saw the indicator resting on what I thought looked like the full mark. But when I fuelled the car on the road to Las Vegas a day or so later, I noticed that the gauge actually went past this mark & it turned out the mark I though indicated full, was actually the ¾ full mark.

Now given that on pickup the needle rested exactly on this ¾ full mark, means to me that there was a deliberate attempt to dupe the renter. Because if you’re standing at a fuel pump topping off a tank, then you wait until the pump auto shuts off, indicating the tank is full. But to have the cars fuel gauge rest precisely on the ¾ mark takes deliberate action !!!!!

So having read through a number of posts on this thread about other renters having cars with less than full fuel tanks, makes me wonder about renting Avis !!

I think I may have to stick with Hertz after all.
