As a side note, you can take the water ferries to just about anywhere and they are very cheap and a nice way to see the sights, take the one across the Bosphorus to Asia and back again.

Sorry to drag up this old thread - I was looking for other info on the Istanbul Conrad!

Rather than the rather expensive Hahnedahn (the restaurant described in this post - which is three floors; ground floor bar, first floor fish restaurant, second floor steak restaurant; cross the main street before you get to the bottom of the hill - there is a bar with seating outside on a corner head past this and follow your nose to the fish market - all around the fish market are small privately owned fish restaurants charging a quarter of the price and serving excellent fayre.

Similarly, if you'd prefer to eat on the coast go up the Bosphorous to Bebek (on the European side).
