The Plan of cabin refitting on 744s has been confirmed by CI's former and present chairman as Dynasty Magazine reiterate the refitting plan this February. The first refitted 744 will start its service in 4Q 2008 or 1Q 2009.
From internal source, the refitting business class will be lie-flat bed seat with 60" pitch. First class may retain current pod seat style.
If CI still place its business class at Zone B (lower deck) and Upper deck on 744s, I think the layout at Zone B will maintain 2-3-2.
However, I guess four of 13 744s will be refitted only two classes in order to fly AMS.
Do remember, CI's competitor is EVA, not Cathay or Singapore. If EVA only place lie-flat bed seat in business class, CI will just do the same thing. 13 744s will also retire in five to seven years according to CI's chairman.
Business class on CI's A340 is the best on all CI's fleets. You get 60" pitch and 150 degree reclining. Although the seat is not lie-flat bed, I feel it's still good for sleeping.
